This is an oldie from 2005!
A joint project, with Chris Edstein.
Our brief was to show the process of
making the Preference coin.
I was so excited through this whole process, it was the first time I’d had a deadline (other than my own) with my art in a long time.Being the last person to hand it over and have to meet the final deadline was an experience – trusting that Chris would get it to me in time to finish was a big one because it was my first collaborative job too.
Working with the Preference guys was an awesome experience. We’d already known them for a few years, they introduced Chris and I because they dug our work. So in that respect it wasn’t just a job, we had insight to who they were as a band and had been around when the concept ideas for the CD were being brainstormed. From the start they were all very focused on producing more than a run-of-the-mill CD release.
As you can see from the photo below, the coin theme ran all the way through the artwork. Chris had designed the boy’s logo previously (like a bullet hole in glass), and that design was then stamped into a run of especially made coins, which were given out with the first copies bought of the CD. The first 100 coins were numbered so that if you were first in to support local music you had something special to show for it 😉
